Welcome to My Website!
COVID-19 has turned all of our lives and careers upside-down, and as an artist, I’ve definitely had my fair share of setbacks. But one silver lining of this whole ordeal has been finding ways to stay productive and building my presence outside the concert hall. So, after years of procrastination (and I mean literally years), I finally sat down and built my website! Welcome to my website and my blog, and thank you so much for your support.

About my website
On yibiaowang.co, you will find… everything about me! Recordings of my past performances and music releases, services I’m offering as a ~freelancer~, concerts that I’m playing in and places where you can find me (although that page will mostly be empty until COVID is gone), and my blog which you’re reading right now.
One of the challenges I set for myself before starting to work on this website was that I wanted to launch the website without the help of other contributors. I’m proud to say that I have met this challenge! It’s been a very fruitful (albeit sometimes frustrating) learning experience dealing with CSS and code injections myself. A shoutout to Squarespace (Note: Not a paid endorsement!), the perfect website builder for someone who cannot make up their mind about design choices, and a special shoutout to my friends who helped me test the different builds of this website before launch.
What you’ll find on my blog
It wasn’t until very recently that I even thought of starting a blog because I didn’t think my life would be interesting enough for me to write about on a regular basis. That all changed this year. In 2020 alone, I travelled more than 10,000 miles across 5 different countries, partly because of the pandemic. I moved to China in March and lived there for five months. I coped with mandatory quarantines by practicing mixing and mastering recordings. I started making electronic music. I arranged a violin concerto for the flute. I’m completing a degree through Zoom and FaceTime. If I didn’t have the wherewithal to write a book about my life in 2020, I figured I might at least document it in this space.
In the future, I’ll write about and share with you a variety of things that I personally find cool or compelling. You’ll get to read about what I do and what I’m thinking about as a musician, my experiences with navigating my own career, my various (hot) takes on music, and travel hacks I’ve learned over the years through my crazy travel antics on the side. Writing is not my strong suit but I will try my best! (Disclaimer: The opinions I express on my blog are purely my own; they don’t necessarily reflect the views of organizations and institutions with which I’m affiliated.)
I’m so excited to finally launch my child and this blog! Thanks for sticking around. I’ll keep it fun I promise 😀
XOXO,
Yibiao
